New-plan lead lists · updated monthly

Companies that just started their first 401(k) — the moment they start buying benefits.

Every month we pull the newest Department of Labor filings and isolate employers filing a retirement plan for the first time ever. These companies just crossed 10, 25, 50 employees and are now shopping for health plans, payroll, HR software and a broker. Get them by state, before anyone else calls.

25,000+ true first plans nationwide in the latest plan year.

For benefits brokers · PEOs · payroll & HR-software sales · commercial insurance agents · 401(k) advisors.

What you get

A state CSV every month

Employer name, state, industry, participant count, employer contribution amount, EIN and plan number. Sorted largest first, so you call the biggest ones Monday morning.

"True first" only

We check every EIN against every prior year's filings. Re-filed, restated or renamed plans are removed. Minimum 10 participants.

Funding flag

If the company raised money in the last two years (SEC Form D), the amount and year are on the row.

Why it works

A first 401(k) is the clearest public signal that a small company decided to professionalize. It usually comes with the first HR hire, the first real health plan and the first payroll switch — all in the same 12 months.

FAQ

Where does the data come from?

Public Form 5500 and 5500-SF filings released by the U.S. Department of Labor, plus SEC Form D filings. We don't scrape anything private.

How fresh is it?

The DOL releases filings on a rolling basis as plans file them. We refresh monthly; your download page always has the newest plan year on top, with earlier years kept for reference.

What does "first plan" mean exactly?

The filing carries the DOL's initial-return flag and the employer's EIN appears in no earlier plan year we hold. That removes the re-filed and renamed plans that pad other lists.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time. Your download link stops working at the end of the paid period.

Who runs this?

first5500 is built and operated by Alco Initiatives in Carlsbad, California — the team behind other public-filing alert services for brokers and agents.
